GENERAL INFORMATION

Information and every day terms relating to adhesive hooks and tags.

Hanging Position The normal position is on the rear face of a pack, centrally at the top.  This may vary if the pack weight is not distributed centrally.  Hooks can face to the left or to the right.  The norm is for hooks to face left, (as you look at the front of the pack).  Variations to this will depend on the pack shape and size eg. larger cartons will hang better if the hook position is on the top surface.
Why Use a Hook A hook allows the consumer to choose a product at the back of the display without moving or disturbing those items at the front.
Sheer Sheer, is a term given to the action of a hook that does not adhere perfectly to the pack material, so after a period of time which could be hours, days or even weeks, the tab will start to slide off the pack.  Classic materials that create Sheer are soft pvc's and shrink films.
Peel Peel is created when a pack depth is such that with the hook placed on the rear surface it hangs at an angle.  Peel is the result of an excessive angle which creates sufficient force that the adhesive begins to peel away.  Once this happens, the hook will completely detach itself after a short time.
Hinge A hinge is a feature manufactured in the design of a hook or tag which allows it to be bent at 90 degrees to the pack.  The idea is for the hook to be placed on the top surface of a pack rather than the rear surface.  A hinge can be made in a number of ways.  The hook can be creased, or a series of cuts can be positioned at intervals across the hook.  A hinge can weaken the hook or reduce the performance of the adhesive.
Euroslot Types

Euroslot is a term given to a design of slot.  However, there are many variations and some are better than others.  The Americans generally have what is called a Delta slot, which is a pointed slot.  Europe uses a slot with a hole in the middle.  This is generally more secure on a single display arm.

There is no such thing as a standard Euroslot.  Every company making them thinks their design is standard.  Simply put, the best Euroslots are those which fit the majority of display arms.

Why Use FLEXI Flexi are very popular because they are harder to accidentally knock off the pack and can be folded back on themselves to reduce the size of transit cartons.  Also, this has proved to be the most suitable adhesive option for shrink wrapped products below 250g and less than 10mm thick.
Top Mounting A hook is positioned on the top surface of the pack so the pack hangs without any lean.
