USING SELF ADHESIVE HANG TAGS

This is intended as a guide only to using adhesive Hang Tags & Hooks.  Adhesive Hang Tags and Hooks are a very successful method to add a hanging facility to retail packs.  By following some simple tests as below, the implementation of these products will always be sound.

Hook Position

Normally, all packs are hung from the rear of the pack.

Pack Orientation

The balance of the pack should be taken into consideration when deciding where to position the Hang Tags and Hooks.

Temperature Characteristics

The nature of adhesive is that when it becomes cold, it hardens and temporarily appears to loose it's stickiness, whilst a higher temperature tends to make it become wetter and softer so appearing even more sticky.

Application Temperatures

The ideal temperature for applying adhesive Hang Tags & Hooks is between +5oC and +25oC.

Hanging Temperatures

Once applied, Hang Tags and Hooks can be used in conditions such as chilled cabinets for use with chilled foods and in warmer areas although the performance does reduce in hotter environments.

Winter Storage

During the winter months, adhesive hooks should be brought into a warmer packing area 3-4 hours prior to applying to allow the adhesive to come to ideal application temperatures.

Cleanliness of Surfaces

Surfaces that soiled from previously handling, oil, grease, dust etc... will reduce the ability of the adhesive to bond.

How to Apply

The adhesive used on Hang Tags and Hooks is a pressure sensitive adhesive, so pressure all over the area should be applied.

Time to Bond

This varies and is dictated by the material to be applied to but is normally between 1 & 4 hours.  After 24 hours the adhesive is at it's maximum adhesion to the pack surface.

Packaging Materials

The following is not a definitive list but the more common materials that sometimes can cause difficulties.  UV varnished print finishes, shrink film, some polypropylenes, PVC's and Polythene (normally lower quality films), some paper and cardboard can be too weak.
